Michelle DeMarco, the Communications Director for the Florida Senate Democratic Office, has announced that the Florida Senate and House members will reveal a key development in their effort to convene a special session to “address gun violence” during a news conference in Orlando, on Tuesday, June 28.

Lawmakers are expected to detail record progress to call, “a special session of the Legislature to enact No-Fly, No-Buy controls on the sale of weapons and require the sharing of information as part of existing background checks.”

State law currently provides for a special session of the Legislature to be convened if three-fifths of members certify the need. If at least 32 members seek that certification, the secretary of state is required to survey all legislators.

The announcement will take place at noon on Tuesday, June 28 at the Orange County Courthouse, at 425 N. Orange Avenue [GMap], led by Sen. Darren Soto of Orlando, Rep. Jared Moskowitz of Coral Springs, and members of the Democratic caucus.
