Park[ing] Day Orlando (Facebook) is a local group that transforms City parking spaces into mini public parks, for one day a year. Last year we “participated” in something similar, the City’s One Less Car Event (Facebook), but we did a fairly awful job. More on that HERE.

Other years have focused on spaces around Lake Eola, but this year the event will be taking place on Edgewater Drive. According to their Facebook page, the Organizers have already selected seven blocks along the busy roadway to host their new parklets.

The upcoming workshop will take place from 7:45-11 p.m. on Thursday, August 11 at Downtown Credo in College Park.

Attendees will learn about the history behind Park[ing] Day and will brainstorm new ways to “improve Orlando’s public realm.” This is also the perfect time for new teams, businesses, and groups to sign up to design their own mini park for the event. Design mentors are available to help flesh out project concepts.

Here are a few of our favorite parklet designs that we dredged up from online.
