According to a recent announcement from City Hall, the City of Orlando Municipal Planning Board and Planning staff are asking Orlando residents to provide feedback on how they currently govern the construction of new tandems and duplexes in the City limits.

City Staff held workshops in March and April of 2015 to gauge public opinion regarding duplexes and tandems. To see the results of the survey, use our slideshow below. For a list of proposed changes, resulting from the surveys, click HERE.

See below for more information on the workshop.

  1. It sounds like you are taking this personally. You shouldn’t. People are not criticizing where you choose to live, they are criticizing the fact that this type of development is out of place in Colonialtown, the Milk District or any of the bungalow neighborhoods for that matter. It is better to renovate what is there (like what is happening in Avalon park and colonial town) then tear down and build something that is not in keeping with the size and spirit of the neighborhood, It is also greener.

  2. Walked my dog this morning in Colonialtown North this morning and saw a resident with no electricity or running water urinating in his yard… But God forbid his house get torn down and a tandem home be put in its place.

  3. I reside in a “tandem home” community in Colonialtown North. Our community keeps the landscaping pristine and the residents support many of the local businesses here in Orlando. It seems unfair that people judge our living space and act as though our type of homes bring the look of the neighborhood down. Will there be a survey to judge the large number of residents in the bungalow neighborhoods who have let their mid century homes and yards fall into disrepair? Maybe the city can propose mandatory upkeep and improvements for the current homes in these communities instead of being so concerned with new construction/growth.

  4. Here we go again.  My big issue on tandem and duplexes.  2 units, 1 driveway, and 4 cars. 1 car each in garage leaves 2 others most likely parked on the street and not in the driveway so that means cars parked in front of my house all the time.
