Private social networking website, Nextdoor (Website), has been providing neighbors a way to interact without actually seeing each other for years. The site allows residents, within given districts, a forum to organize and communicate. Users post about new restaurants, when they’re looking for trustworthy babysitters, when a dog has run away, or sometimes, if they think there are strangers casing up the ‘hood.

In response to criticism that the site was allowing users to engage in racial profiling when reporting suspected crime or suspicious persons, the CEO of Nextdoor, Nirav Tolia, has stepped in to make some changes. Users must now include at least two other identifying factors when describing someone if they are identifying someone by race. Other qualifiers include, but aren’t limited to, what they’re wearing on their top, on their bottom, or their shoes.
