The Orlando Science Center (Facebook | Website) is set to open their new 11,000 SF KidsTown area in late October, 2016. The space will feature more than 75 exhibits for children under the age of seven. We’ve written about the KidsTown project previously, HERE, complete with renderings.

This $5M dollar project will open to the general public in late October 2016. It signals the completion of the first phase of the $30M Unlock Science Campaign, a multi-year/multi-phase effort to renovate all the exhibits and expand resources at the Science Center. Fundraising is till underway to fund the rest of the projects in the campaign.

Admission to New KidsTown is included in general admission, which is $19.95 for adults, $13.95 for youth, ages 3-11 and free for children 2 and under. Admission is free for Science Center members.

The focus of the expansion is on higher quality opportunities for play and critical thinking. New exhibits will include:

  • New and expanded Orange Grove where visitors can pick, transfer, and process oranges through special stations.
  • Isaacs Family ClimbTime, an obstacle course with layered platforms, rope bridges, and more.
  • Water wheels and pipes in Drip Drop Splash for experimenting with dams and fountains and learning about how water flows.
  • Toddler Town for children under the age of three to get away from the chaos of the other exhibits and work on developing their fine motor skills.
  • Explore It! will have design-related activities featuring things like an 18-foot wind tube or a giant Lite-Brite.
  • KidsTown Studio with puzzles, games, and interactive science experiments.
  • Harriett’s KidsTown Theatre will have a space where children can create their own experimental plays.

  1. We are so happy ! As members we have heard it a lot , and have been eagerly waiting – we can’t wait for the giant light brite panels ( a installation ) , so glad the donated boats and orange groves will still be there, even better groves ! U0001f60a
