The Survivor Tree is a pear tree that managed to survive through the World Trade Center disaster on September 11, 2001. The tree, nursed back to health after being reduced to a charred stump, has since bloomed and fruited each year since the disaster and become a symbol of hope for the people of New York, and those visiting the site.

The Survivor Tree Seedling Program (Website) sends out seedlings of the tree to American cities that have experienced some sort of disaster in the past year. Orlando is being honored by the program as a result of the Pulse Orlando nightclub shooting.

The tree will be planted and hosted at Leu Gardens  until plans for a more permanent memorial have been cemented. The tree may not necessarily be part of any permanent memorial, but the City is still in the planning process so no decisions have been made at the time of this post, so it could stay at the Gardens.
