The City of Winter Park will begin checking dogs at Lake Baldwin Park for visible, valid tags on their collars as of October 1, 2016.
According to Orange County Code of Ordinance – Chapter 2, 5-38, all dogs cats, and ferrets in Orange County shall have displayed on its collar a current rabies vaccination tag, when not confined inside the owner’s or keeper’s home. To read the entire Code yourself, click HERE. The only dog that can be exempt from this rule is a police dog, while being used by a law enforcement agency.
According to the City of Winter Park, the purpose of enforcing this Code is four-fold:
  1. Keep our park guests, both two-legged and four-legged, safe and healthy
  2. Educate our park visitors
  3. Encourage compliance with Orange County’s code
  4. Remind pet owners of the requirements

City of Winter Park rangers and park attendants will be in charge of looking for up-to-date tags. If a dog is found without a proper tag, after October 1, the owner will be reminded of the Orange County requirement and asked to properly vaccinate and license their pet before returning to the park. Nobody will be forced to leave the park, the City is simply trying to remind park-goers of the importance of having their pets properly vaccinated.

  1. It says vaccinated and licensed. I don’t believe Orange County requires a dog/pet license unless your dog has been labeled dangerous.
