The Tourist Development Committee has approved the use of $45 M from the Tourist Development Tax, for the second phase of construction at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The funds will be used towards the completion of the Steinmetz Hall, the 1700-seat acoustical theater which will be the new home of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orlando Ballet. More on Phase 2, HERE.

The City and County Commissioners still must vote to approve the funding.

According to a story by WFTV earlier in September, available HERE, Mayor Jacobs’ office believed that the more construction was delayed, the higher the cost would become. The diversion of TDT funds is meant to fight the rising cost of completing the project.

The projected cost of Phase 2 is $185 million.
