Billy L. Hattaway, has been chosen by the Mayor as the City’s new Director of the fledgling Transportation Department. If approved by City Council on October 10, the contract will be effective November 28, 2016.
Hattaway is currently employed as the FDOT Secretary of District One, in Bartow, Florida. The starting salary for this new position is $205,000, as outlined in this Fiscal Impact Statement, HERE. The new Transportation Department was scheduled to be in place in October, in order to better manage Orlando’s growing mobility needs. The budget for the inaugural year of the department is $45 M, as it will eventually take the reigns for SunRail from FDOT in a few years time. Other targeted issues include increasing pedestrian friendliness, the Complete Streets initiative, and improving the City’s bike trail system.
