A new website in Philadelphia has been launched to combat a rampant litter problem.

Not In Philly (Website) is a variation on adopt-a-block programs where residents and businesses can lay claim to certain areas of a town, usually highly-trafficked streets, and keep them clean of garbage. Philly residents are now able to claim an area for six-month windows, committing to pick-up litter once a week. Volunteers using the service get a grabber and can win gift cards when posting photos of their cleaned-up, adopted street babies.

It’s an interesting platform that can be applied to a variety of things like Neighborhood Watch services, fruit tree gleaning, or door-to-door activities during political campaigns.

We’d love for someone to #bringtoorlando this great idea, possibly in concert with already existing agencies like IDEAS For US or Keep Orlando Beautiful.
