In light of the recent shooting and subsequent death of two local police officers, the Mayor’s office has issued the following statement:

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has declared a day of mourning in the City of Orlando after the tragic loss of Master Sergeant Debra Clayton of the Orlando Police Department and an Orange County Deputy Sherriff, both killed today in the line of duty.

Today’s City Council workshop and meeting are cancelled.  Consent agenda items only will be rescheduled for Wednesday, January 11, at 1 p.m.    All ordinances, hearings and other items will be moved to the meeting on January 23, 2017.”

Sergeant Clayton was shot while on-duty around 7:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the Princeton Street Walmart. An, as-of-yet, unnamed Orange County motorcycle deputy was killed in a traffic accident near Balboa and Pine Hills Road while searching for the suspected shooter, who was not involved in the crash.
