In a recent Facebook Live post, HERE, professional Dumpster Diver Rob Greenfield took City of Orlando’s Director of Sustainability, Chris Castro, on a tour of local grocery store dumpsters to shed a light on food waste issues.

While in the dumpster of Aldi on Aloma Drive, Greenfield discovered filled a large cardboard box with his salvaged loot, which included; dozens of oranges to juice, eleven ripe plum tomatoes, a bag of apples, a box of Fiber One, Apple Strudel snack mix, a bag of Four-Cheese Mashed Potatoes, and much more. During the video Castro states that they had been dumpster diving all week and had already liberated over $1,000 worth of groceries from the garbage.

Greenfield has been inside dumpsters all across the nation, over 2,000 of them, documenting how much good food is thrown away. He crossed the country twice by bicycle, documenting his journey and posting it in a series called Dumpster Diving Across America, available on his website, HERE. Roughly 70 percent of Greenfield’s diet on that journey was found in dumpsters.

Greenfield stated on the Facebook Live video with Castro that he had never been arrested, yet, for getting into dumpsters. To learn more about “freeganism,” click HERE.

At the time of this post the video has been viewed more than 27,000 times by people all over the world.
