UPDATE: Lake Alert for Lake of the Woods – LIFTED, Feb 2, 2017

A sanitary sewer overflow, that originated near the intersection of South Orange Avenue and West Gore Street, has forced the City of Orlando Stormwater Section to issue a precautionary warning for nearby residents and visitors to nearby Lake of the Woods.

The City of Orlando advises that all water contact activities cease until further notice, including irrigation, as staff collect bacteria samples and monitor the water quality of the lake.

The overflow was caused by a blockage in the sanitary line, created by root intrusion on private property.

For further information regarding the sewer discharge, please contact Athena Tipaldos, Wastewater Compliance Manager, at athena.tipaldos@cityoforlando.net.  For water quality questions, please contact Lisa Lotti, Stormwater Compliance Manager, at [email protected].
