UPDATE: BUMBY IS SCHEDULED TO RE-OPEN ON FRIDAY APRIL 7, BY 3:30 P.M. There will be a public celebration of the opening of the roadway and multi-use path at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a short bike ride.

Bumby Avenue is expected to open to through-traffic on, or before April 14, following a two-year closure of the east-west north-south-running corridor. The closure was initiated by the City of Orlando in order to replace all of the underground utilities, resurface the street, expansion of the sidewalk into a wide trail, and replanting of the surrounding streetscape. Over one hundred trees are planned to be planted along the corridor.

As stated above, the opening date is not set in stone, but according to the City Press Secretary, Cassandra Lafser, the date set for the contractor to meet substantial completion, per their contract, is March 20.

A community event is being planned for the re-opening, in concert with a ribbon cutting with the Mayor and Commissioners, led by local organizations and nearby residents. More details to follow.
