Bungalower shared a photo of a man catching a bass out of Lake Eola in the afternoon of Monday, March 27. We posted the photo to our Instagram account, @orlandobungalower.

The photo seemed to incense some of our Instagram followers, with a number of them seeing it as unfair that someone was seemingly receiving special treatment as the public is not allowed access to the lake for fishing purposes.

The following statement was issued by the Office of the Mayor, in regards to the photo:

“This was a representative from the state agency – Florida Fish and Wildlife.  We do not allow for recreational fishing at Lake Eola.  This was a request from the state agency to fish the lake for the purpose of catching fish (that would be kept alive and eventually released, whether that be in another lake or aquarium) to look at the fish health, size, weight, etc.”

There are five lakes that are managed for fishing purposes by the FWC as well as a series of Urban Ponds:

  1. Clear Lake
  2. Lake Ivanhoe
  3. Starke Lake
  4. Turkey Lake
  5. Lake Underhill
