In this episode of “Only in Japan,” host John Daub takes viewers on a trip through the eye-pleasing world of Japanese manhole covers.

The culture around Japanese manholes is so established that there is even a series of manhole conferences, meetups, and collectible cards.

Orlando has its own series of ornate cast iron sewer covers, like the one pictured below.

There is even an exhibit of manhole cover-inspired works at the Orange County Regional History Center (Website) by artist Bobbi Mastrangelo (Website), called Grate Works.
