“While there is an aesthetic element, this is a safety project that is meant to reduce vehicle and train collisions by adding a median. The median will limit some of the turning from side streets and driveways, which sometimes backs up traffic on U.S. 17-92 and causes hazards, with vehicles stopped on, or protruding onto, the tracks.” – Steve Olson, Communications Manager, FDOT

The Florida Department of Transportation is looking to improve a railroad crossing near the intersection of Garden Drive and 17/92 [GMap].

The project outline calls for installing a raised, grass median to the north and south of the crossing.

A hearing will be held on Thursday, August 10 from 5-7 p.m. at the Winter Park Civic Center since the proposed project would impact the flow of traffic. A formal presentation will take place at 6 p.m.

No word on the suggested roundabout project for the six-way intersection immediately to the north, which we wrote about HERE.
