Jay Smith, the long-time owner of Cavenaugh’s Fine Wines (Facebook | Website) has sold his shop to a former wine distributor after being in business for roughly 20 years.
Smith told Bungalower that he was looking forward to his retirement and heading on a trip to Spain to visit old friends, when we bumped into him on a recent visit to Cavenaugh’s. He also said he’ll still be around, but this time it’ll be to buy wine instead of to sell it.
The new owner, Rob Chase, is a former wine distributor who had been working with Smith for years leading up to the purchase. Chase told Bungalower that while they’re currently getting the lay of the land at his new shop future plans include a re-brand, renovations of the interior and outdoor spaces, extended store hours, and a fully-functioning kitchen.
Guests can purchase wine by the bottle or sample on-site at various seating areas peppered around the shop.
Cavenaugh’s Fine Wines is located at 1215 Edgewater Drive in College Park [GMap] and is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
