UPDATE: December 28, 2017- Lake Alert Issued for Lake Winyah LIFTED

The City of Orlando has issued a Lake Alert for Lake Winyah, a smaller lake just north of Lake Estelle due to a sanitary sewer overflow near the intersection of West Winter Park Street and Oberlin Avenue [GMap].

A blockage in the line caused an overflow that released approximately 100 gallons of sanitary waste into the stormwater system that flows into Lake Winyah. As such, the City’s Stormwater Division has asked that all water contact activities cease until further notice. Stormwater personnel will monitor bacteria levels in the lake until they have reached acceptable State water quality standards.

Another Lake Alert issued for Lake Winyah in 2015 was also because of a sewage leak.

Once bacteria counts drop to acceptable State Water Quality Standards, the Lake Alert Hotline Number (407-246-2220) and the City’s Lake Alert website will be updated.
