According to a report by Jeff Weiner of the Orlando Sentinel, the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida has approached the City of Orlando to lease the former Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce building in Ivanhoe Village.

The 7,000 SF building is located at 75 S. Ivanhoe Boulevard [GMap] and was left vacant following the merger of the Orlando Economic Development Commission and the Chamber last year. We actually spoke with the City concerning the future of the building in April, 2017 HERE in an Ask Bungalower column.

Rumors have persisted for the past two years that the Center was looking for a new home in Downtown Orlando but when we spoke with Pamela Kancher, Executive Director of the Holocaust Center, in November of last year concerning a possible move she told us it was something they were considering but not for any time in the near future.

According to Weiner’s report, Orlando City Council will be looking at the possibility of leasing the building to the Holocaust Center for a 50 year contract at $1 a year; mimicking the same deal they had originally extended to the Chamber of Commerce. In addition, the new tenants have promised to carry out $20 million of renovations including the construction of a 20,000 SF addition for more exhibits.

A capital campaign has yet to be launched, which means any possible move and renovation are still many years away.
