“[She should be] starring in a movie version directed by Baz Luhrmann.” – RuPaul

A one-woman play with roots in Orlando that documents the journey of iconic performer Josephine Baker, Josephine: A Burlesque Cabaret Dream Play just got the stamp of approval from Her Majesty RuPaul.

The production, starring Tymisha Harris, is a biographical work that combines live singing and dancing chronicling the life of Baker. It’s currently on tour and performing at the Soho Playhouse in New York City before briefly coming to the Plaza Live on March 5 and then heading back out on the road to Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Edmonton as part of the Fringe Festival circuit.

RuPaul posted the following shout out on her Twitter after catching the performance in New York:

  1. We just got back from NY and took some friends to see Josephine while we were there. The audience there, all loved the show, Tymisha got enthusiastic applause at various times during the show and a very long standing ovation at the end.
