EDIT: JUST TO CLARIFY, THIS SPILL DID NOT REACH LAKE FORMOSA AND REMAINED ON-SITE BY THE LIFT STATION.

We often get photographs and tips from our Bungalower readers of things that are happening around town, so we have started featuring them on the site in a series called Eyes on the Street, in honor of our favorite urbanist Jane Jacobs.

“Remember after the hurricane that sewage leaked out at Mills Park? It’ happening again.” – @thesadneon

We received the above message over the weekend and investigated. There was indeed a small sewage leak from the private lift station at Mills Park that affected the nearby Orlando Urban Trail.

According to the City of Orlando’s Public Information Officer, a private contractor did a full clean-up of the site and sent an inspector to survey the area affected.

The leak was caused by a cracked pipe, which has been fixed and is being monitored to ensure it will continue to run properly.

Also, according to City officials the sewage overflow stayed on-site and did not reach Lake Formosa as it did in the instance referred to above (more on that HERE) so a Lake Alert will not be issued.

The City of Orlando has issued a $1,250 fine to Mills Park Association as a result of the leak, which covers an administration fee associated with sending an inspector to the site.

Mills Park is located at 1650 N. Mills Avenue [GMap].
