The CityArts Factory is considering a move down Pine Street into a fancy Victorian, according to an item on this week’s City Council agenda.
Local businessman Ford W. Kiene, gifted the historic Rogers Building to the City of Orlando on January 22 of this year, to be used as a “cultural facility” for the next 20 years. More on that agreement HERE. That deal is expected to close on June 30.
Coincidentally, the City’s leasing arrangement with the Downtown Arts District for 29 S. Orange Avenue [GMap], the current home of the CityArts Factory, is set to end on November 30 of this year, and the City isn’t looking to renew it.
According to a City Council agenda item, the CityArts Factory is looking to relocate into the Rogers Kiene Building, in the hopes of operating it as a multi-use cultural arts facility with artist-in-residence programs, a cafe, theater, juried art shows, and more.
The suggested lease term is for five years at one dollar a year, with a starting date of July 1 of this year. The deal is recommended for approval.
The City has yet to announce what will be occupying the current home of CityArts at the corner of Pine and Orange later this year.
