The contract between the City of Orlando and Amazon has ended; one that allowed for a pilot program testing Amazon’s fledgling facial recognition software, Rekognition.

Orlando was reported as being one of, if not the first, police forces in the country to test the real-time face recognition program, even though the OPD stated it was limited to just seven participating officers and only eight cameras.

City staff is still evaluating whether or not they will continue with the pilot at a later date, but that would involve a new contract with Amazon.
