Orlandoan, Mike DiMauro, launched a petition on Change.org to have SunPass to waive fees for customers caught in a mess created as a result of a technological snafu.

The aforementioned snafu comes as a result of a failed upgrade to the SunPass toll system that has left a backlog of over 170 million transactions over the past few months, which were only just processed according to a release issued by the Florida Department of Transportation on August 14.

In the process to catch up with the backlogged payments, some customers were charged anywhere between $50-200 a day – a far cry from smaller payments they had agreed to when they signed on for the SunPass auto-pay feature.

Governor Rick Scott has directed SunPass to reimburse their customers for any overdraft expenses that resulted from the debacle and will be announcing the process to file a claim as soon as possible. Late fees and penalties will also be waived while SunPass customers figure out how to pay their unexpected bills. If customers have questions regarding their accounts, they may reach a SunPass representative at 1-888-TOLL-FLA or 1-888-865-5352.

As of the time of this post, the petition had garnered almost 13,000 signatures.

You can sign the petition HERE.
