A broken water main in the Lake Eola Heights neighborhood flooded nearby streets in the early afternoon of Monday, October 22.
The break occurred in a residential property near the corner of Summerlin Avenue and Concord Street [GMap] but succeeded in washing out streets that were blocks away.
We reported the issue on our Instagram and Facebook pages when we received some photos from Bungalower reader and local realtor, Beth Hobart, that were taken by her assistant, attached above.
The Orlando Police Department responded immediately to divert traffic away from the area and shut down both Concord and Amelia, which is likely for the next few days as clean-up continues.
The sudden flood affected three vehicles and one home.
Nearby residents have been informed that if their water pressure is low, they are not to drink the water. If you live in the area you should conserve your water until everything is running smoothly again. When water is reconnected, you should remove your faucet aerator in one of your sinks and let the water run until your pipes are clear.
OUC will be working with impacted residents during this time.
Residents are asked to please avoid the area and take an alternate route if you are passing through.
City Commissioner Patty Sheehan stated via social media that the section of road will soon be paved with asphalt as the water managed to severely damage all of the bricks.
“Unfortunately, we could not save the bricks. So the road will be repaired with asphalt. I did try to get them to rebrick it, but the bricks are part of the rubble and asphalt that fell into the hole.”
