For some, December means Hunnukah or Christmas, or Mr. Bean reruns or turkey dinners. For others, its the season of Krampus; a half-goat, half-demon creature known for punishing bad children in Central Europe.
The companion of Saint Nicholas was known in regions of Austria, Bavaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Northern Italy, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Tradition dictated, in most of those regions, that young men dressed as Krampus take to the streets in events like a Krampuslauf; basically a public spanking party with devil costumes.
We’ve rounded up some sure-bet Krampus-inspired events happening in the region, just for you. Yes, we went outside of our Downtown coverage area. It’s a Krampus miracle.
