The Florida Department of Transportation is opening a new overpass over Colonial Drive.

Additional testing of the new structure has been completed and it is ready to be opened to traffic with a scheduled opening date of Monday, January 7.

The bridge is part of a new on-ramp for traffic to merge onto eastbound I-4 from Garland Avenue at Amelia Street. To access the new ramp, motorists need to be in the right lane on Garland Avenue. The bridge opening allows for other work to continue in downtown Orlando, including demolition of the old on-ramp at Amelia Street, as well as work to construct eastbound lanes for the I-4 Ultimate mainline.

  1. The I-4 eastbound ramp at Colonial is a nightmare!!! Took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get from Amelia Street to Maitland exit. One lane with two other lanes merging into the one is not appropriate for the amount of traffic driving eastbound and north from Orlando. Ridiculous.
