The Florida Department of Transportation will host over 3,000 students this weekend at their Construction Career Days event at Central Florida Fairgrounds.

Junior and senior high school students from over 70 local schools will learn about jobs for engineers and skilled trade workers from local firms and technical schools. FDOT will also be hosting over 30 interactive learning labs.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the number of jobs in the construction field to grow by nearly 22 percent in the newest few years, despite the current labor pool continuing to shrink. The average skilled worker is close to 50 years old and nearing retirement.

Construction Career Days takes place from January 31 to February 1 from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. daily at 4603 W. Colonial Drive [GMap].
