A new non-profit called the Winter Park Land Trust (Website) will host a launch party at the end of the month at the Winter Park Farmers’ Market.

According to their website, the Trust was founded to “… plan, finance, and manage the acquisition of land and interests in land, to be used for the creation, expansion, improvement, and connecting of parkland and green space within and adjacent to the City of Winter Park.” Essentially to ensure that future generations of Winter Park residents will continue to have access to sufficient and an increasing amount of green space and parks.

The current Board of Trustees is comprised of a smorgasbord of familiar enviro-warrior faces like the City of Orlando’s Sustainability Director, Chris Castro; rock star Rollins professor, Leslie Poole; local do-gooder, Ted Haddock; Winter Park eco-champion, Sue Foreman, among others. The launch party for the fledgling land trust will take place 6-9 p.m. Thursday, February 28 at the Winter Park Farmers’ Market, located at 200 W. New England Avenue, Winter Park [GMap]. Seating, food, and beverages are first come, first served.
