Journey into space with the 2019 Summer Reading Program, A Universe of Stories. The annual summer event kicks off on June 1, when we’ll host our first Celebrate Summer concert at the Winter Garden Branch with a free performance by local freestyle rappers Free Daps. On June 22, Potterversary returns and transforms the Orlando Public Library into scenes from your favorite Harry Potter books. Wear your house colors and join in on games, trivia and more as we celebrate 20 years of the release of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Make your way through popular locations like Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Tavern as you dodge dementors and the mysterious Sirius Black.
Visit the Orlando Public Library on June 23 for Summer Space: PBS Documentary Screening, where we’ll celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Enjoy previews of two new documentaries, Chasing the Moon and Space Chase USA, about the events leading to the moon landing. Join in on a discussion shortly after the films with Elizabeth Muchow, critical part inspector for Northrup Gruuman (Apollo 11) and Roy Tharpe, branch chief in the Test Support Management Office at Launch Complex 39.
Registration is open for the Summer Reading Program. Visit ocls.info/srp for a full list of events. Seating may be limited for some events, advance registration is recommended.
