“Any updates as to what, exactly, the City is installing for pedestrian/ vehicle controls at this intersection? They’ve dug holes on all 4 corners, making me think the traffic-signal mast-arm idea is no more.” – bob windom

Well, Bob, we can’t blame you for not remembering when we wrote about this intersection back in 2016. We can barely remember what happened this weekend, but that’s because of mimosas.

In 2016, the intersection at Summerlin Avenue and Washington Street [GMap] in Thornton Park was approved for a mast arm traffic signal but three years later nothing has been installed.

Karyn Barber, the journalist sherpa at the City of Orlando, has told us that the city is now in the process of installing rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) as well as making enhancements to the lighting and crosswalk to improve visibility and lighting at the intersection.

A project timeline has not been announced at this time.
