Team Market Group (Website), the team behind popular downtown venues like Celine, Mather’s Social Gathering, and The Robinson Room, have just acquired their first hotel.
TMG has purchased the historic Wellborn Hotel was built in 1942 and is one of the best local examples of Art Deco architecture. Located at 211 Lucerne Circle [GMap], the building sits on a small campus that hosts three historic homes, including the I.W. Phillips building which is one of the oldest homes on register at City Hall.
The Mawardi brothers, owners of TMG, took our editor on a tour of the property last week and shared their plans for the special space, which include:
- Interior renovations of all of the rooms, including subdividing some of the larger rooms for more offerings.
- Coffee shop addition to the main building for visiting guests.
- Full kitchen addition to rear building to service a new restaurant/banquet space.
- A second-floor bar/clubhouse for guests and special events.
Team Market Group plans on having all renovation work completed by the mid-summer and are already hosting special events in the courtyard area.
