The Pet Alliance of Orlando (Website) is breaking the local internet with their recent announcement of a new shelter dog checkout service in Central Florida called National Hound Around Town Week.
People who are interested in taking a dog out for a two-hour period can show up between the hours of noon and 3 p.m. at one of two shelters in Sanford and Orlando. There are pre-approved locations for your doggy dates and you have a strict curfew of 5 p.m. or you’ll be in trouble.
Preapproved locations include:
- Spring Hammock Park
- Little Econ Greenway
- Turkey Lake Park
- Cady Way Trail
- Loch Haven Park
- Mead Gardens
- Blue Jacket Park
- Burton’s Bar
- Crooked Can Brewery
- Foxtail Coffee
- The Hammered Lamb
Simply fill out an online form HERE with 24-hours notice and then head over to the shelter with your photo ID.
These mid-day breaks are proven, by science, to improve the behavior of pre-homed puppies and the people who walk them.
The program runs from Monday, September 23 through Sunday, September 29 but we hope that if it’s popular enough they can just make it a forever thing.
I swear the place in Sanford already has something similar but way more lenient
