Vinyl Arts Bar has now become MamaJuana Latin Bistro and Rum Bar (Website), a new Latin-themed casual dining restaurant.

The new space held a grand opening in mid-September at 75 E. Colonial Drive [GMap] and has been testing their menu ever since. Dishes include Chilean mussels, churrasco with chimichurri sauce, ropa vieja, Dominican rice and beans, and flatbreads.

According to the owner, Wilson Santos, the name comes from, “… an ancient elixir from the Dominican Republic. It was first used by the Native Taino shamans before Columbus’ arrival for medical purposes and to restore energy and vitality. It later became a staple of Dominican culture, with a mythology of its aphrodisiac properties.”

Their logo is allegedly the Taino symbol for the sun.

MamaJuana will be open from 5-11 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday.
