The Orlando Utilities Commission just approved a plan to add 149 megawatts of solar power to OUC’s generation portfolio, essentially doubling its current solar efforts.
The commissioners gave OUC approval to negotiate on two separate 20-year power purchase agreements with clean energy provider, Invenergy (Website), which requires them to build and operate two separate 74.5-megawatt solar arrays, each covering 500 acres near existing OUC transmission lines in Psceola County.
The arrays are planned to come online in 2022 and 2023.
Coupled with the 108.5 megawatts of solar scheduled to come online next year, the proposed contract would make OUC the largest user of solar energy in the state, on a watt-per-customer basis.
