UPDATE 11/20 – The Lake Alert for Lake Silver has been lifted. Please resume all normal water activities associated with the lake.

The City took water samples from Lake Silver on November 5, 2019, and found the presence of microcystins which are basically toxins. The toxins are the result of an algae bloom in the lake and the levels have been determined to be potentially unsafe.

As a precaution, the City’s Streets and Stormwater Division is advising everyone to refrain from swimming, recreating, and irrigating with the water from the lake until further notice.

This type of bacteria is always present in the water, but blooms caused by fertilizers, yard waste, dog poop, and leaky septic tanks can increase their toxicity.

Testing will continue until the bacteria fall within safe levels.
