Looking for some great hands-on activities with your children that will expose them to volunteerism, hard work, and community spirit? Bungalower is partnering with local tech guru Gregg Pollack and his children to spotlight some of the amazing local organizations that are always on the lookout for volunteers.

When it comes to fully support everyone in our community, no matter their race, religion, age, or gender, charities like our local Christian Service Center (Website) show everyone how it’s done. Their vision is to eradicate poverty through the provision of services and resources that foster hope, well-being, and empowerment, and they’ve been doing it for the last 48 years.

They have various programs to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those who are hurting and need some aid in our community. One such program, Daily Bread (Website), provides noontime meals six days a week for those who are hungry at no cost. The kids and I volunteered on a Sunday where we prepared and served free food.

Aside from Daily Bread, the Christian Service Center provides family and emergency services, to help people when faced with an unexpected financial crisis. They support families with food, clothing, rent/mortgage assistance, and utility assistance to help prevent homelessness. The Christian Service Center also runs the Love Pantry Project (Website), which provides a stocked pantry of free food to public schools. This enables teachers and administrators to send hungry kids home with food for them and their families. The goal of this program is to feed hungry families and eliminate hunger insecurity as a barrier to learning.

To get involved with this organization, you can choose from a list of volunteering opportunities, monetary donations, and donations of food, clothes, and bus passes.

Lastly, if you’re into golf, you might consider joining their Take a Swing Against Hunger golf tournament on April 17th.

Pollack will be sharing more videos of his family’s adventures in volunteerism into early 2020 as he endeavors to expose his children to the joys of volunteerism and in giving back to the community. If you have any to suggest for a future visit, please do get in touch or contact [email protected] for an introduction.
