Jimmy Hula’s (Website), the beach-inspired restaurant chain based out of Winter Park, has been opening new shops in recent years and recently hit 15 locations in the state, and just signed on for a new space in the Milk District, but it’s for a new concept.
Zach Hartman, Vice President at Jimmy Hula’s, told Bungalower that they were just finishing the paperwork needed to move into a former bakery space behind Whippoorwill Beer House and Package Store at 2425 E. South Street [GMap]. The building will be renovated to house a commissary that they will use as a ghost kitchen to operate multiple delivery-only restaurant concepts out of including a fried chicken concept, BBQ, a deli, and more.
Ghost Kitchens or “virtual restaurants” are a rising phenomenon of virtual brands that produce food without a brick and mortar location and tasting room. They produce solely for delivery service.
Jimmy Hula’s is also rolling out a new fleet of food trucks across Central Florida, beginning with one in Winter Park. Each truck will serve burgers, bowls, and tacos and is outfitted with speakers, and exterior-facing television sets. The first run of the truck was at the Downtown Food and Wine Festival this past Saturday.
