CORONAVIRUS UPDATES: Running list of event cancellations and closures

This is a running list of closures and updates for Coronavirus resources and information as it pertains to Orlando and the bungalow neighborhoods downtown. Bungalower staff will be updating this list throughout the next few weeks with information as it comes in.

Florida residents can now call the AdventHealth Coronavirus Information Line at 877-VIRUSHQ (877-847-8747) for up-to-date information. Advent Health has released a Coronavirus Signs and Symptoms website HERE.

3/11: The WHO officially labeled the coronavirus as a pandemic yesterday as global infections surpassed 127,000 people.
3/11: The virus has disrupted supply chains for nearly 75 percent of US businesses. Chinese manufacturing is operating at 50 percent capacity with 56 percent of normal staff. This means Americans will see disruptions in the availability of certain imported goods. Please shop local and source local where applicable.
3/11: President Trump has announced travel restrictions from Europe to the United States and asking for $50 billion to help small businesses with low-interest loans as they’re hurt by the crisis.
3/11: NBA is suspending the season because a player tested positive. Orlando Magic will honor tickets that have already been purchased for when they are inevitably rescheduled. If games are played in an empty arena and not with a live audience, fans will have the option to receive a credit for a future game or a refund.
3/12: A 68-year old male tested positive for COVID19 at AdventHealth in Altamonte Springs.
3/12: Florida Senator Rick Scott has been quarantined after meeting a Brazilian delegate with the Coronavirus.
3/12: The NHL has suspended its regular season.
3/12: Seven Reedy Creek firefighters are now in quarantine having returned from a conference in Tampa where someone tested positive and one firefighter just returned from Vietnam/South Korea.
3/12: MLS has suspended its season for 30 days effective immediately.
3/12: The Orange County Library System has canceled all library-sponsored events and programs from March 14 through March 31st. That includes classes, events, programs, studio sessions, tours, library pop-ups, and outreach events. Online classes will continue to be offered and branches will still be open during normal hours.
3/12: Princess Cruise Line is suspending all cruises for the next two months.’
3/12: Major League Baseball delays opening day by at least two weeks and postpones openers.
3/12: Orlando Senior Centers set to close across the city tomorrow.
3/12: All Solar Bears/ECHL games are suspended. Fans can log onto orlandosolarbearshockey.com for ticket and schedule information.
3/12: Walt Disney World will close its theme parks for the rest of March. They will continue to pay their castmembers during the closure.
3/12: Universal Orlando Resort will temporarily close its theme parks effective Sunday, March 15. Its hotels and Universal CityWalk will remain open.
3/12: Orlando Pride is still scheduled to open the 2020 season on April 19 versus Sky Blue FC at Exploria Stadium.

FRIDAY, MARCH 13
The Winter Park Public Library has canceled all programming through March 31.
3/13: SeaWorld will temporarily close their theme parks effective March 16 through March 31. Essential staff will continue to care for the animals on property.
3/13: Orlando Health has revised its visitor policies in response to the coronavirus.
3/13: Orlando Science Center will close to the public on the 16th and reopen to on Monday, March 30.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14
3/14: Art and History Museums – Maitland is closed through April 2.
3/14: Albin Polasek Museum is closed until further notice.
3/14: Duke Energy is suspending disconnections due to nonpayment effective immediately.
3/14: Disney will suspend its Disney College Program and send those staying in its Disney Program housing home as of Wednesday, March 18 at 11 a.m. Those programs include the Disney Culinary Program, Disney Cultural Exchange Program, and Disney Academic Exchange Program.

SUNDAY, MARCH 15
3/15: AdventHealth is installing tents on their campuses as part of their readiness efforts. They are not in use at this moment. They are also stocking up on supplies like masks, protective equipment, wipes, and hand sanitizers.
3/15: Walmart will start operating on limited hours – 6 a.m.-11 p.m. – until further notice.
3/15: Blood supplies are running low all over the state. Blood donations will be accepted at early voting locations – Alafaya Library, Southwest Library by Dr. Phillips Market Place, West Oaks Library, Apopka Community Center.
3/15: OUC will suspend service disconnects due to nonpayment until further notice.
3/15: American Airlines is cutting 75 percent of international service flights.
3/15: Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach to close beaches.
3/15: The Florida National Guard has formed Task Force – Medical with a team of its medical professionals to support the efforts of the Florida Department of Health.
3/15: CDC recommends that there be no gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.
3/15: Starbucks is moving to a to-go/delivery model for the next two weeks.
3/15: Jury trials have been suspended for two weeks.
3/15: Orange County Utilities will suspend water service disconnections due to nonpayment.

MONDAY, MARCH 16
3/16: The U.S. Health and Human Services Department suffered a cyber-attack last night.
3/16: The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is closed until further notice.
3/16: Chick-fil-A closing dining rooms in all stores.
3/16: Disney to close all hotels and shops.
3/16: Drive-up coronavirus testing available at offices in The Villages and Ocala.
3/16: Foxtail Coffee will start closing at 8 p.m. nightly.
3/16: Winn Dixie to start closing at 9 p.m.
3/16: Southern Nights Orlando to temporarily close all of their properties, effective immediately.
3/16: AdventHealth has started sending home any ancillary staff members.
3/16: Univeral Studios closes CityWalk starting midnight tonight.
3/16: Universal Studios to close hotels at 5 p.m.
3/16: The Orange County Library System has extended its cancellation of all programs and events through the end of April.
3/16: Enzian Theater will suspend all operations between March 17 and April 2.
3/16: Orlando Museum of Art will remain closed through April 4.
3/16: The Mental Health Association of Central Florida says its temporarily closing due to a possible coronavirus exposure in its office.
3/16: Regal Movie Theaters closing until further notice.
3/16: Dollar General encouraging customers to save first hour of store openings for senior shoppers only.
3/16: Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida is limiting operations due to outbreak and suspending all jury trials for two weeks.
3/16: The YMCA is shutting down all Central Florida locations.
3/16: Orange County Convention Center parking lot to be used for drive-thru testing staging area for the next two weeks.

TUESDAY, MARCH 17
3/17: The Downtown Orlando Partnership has postponed its Golden Brick Awards.
3/17: Foxtail Coffee has begun temporarily shutting down certain locations in high-traffic areas and malls. Click link for more information.
3/17: 24 Hour Fitness closes all locations due to COVID 19.
3/17: Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer shuts down all on-site alcohol consumption.
3/17: Florida Government shuts down all bars and clubs as of 5 p.m. tonight ahead of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Effective for the next 30 days.
3/17: Enzian is closed and The Florida Film Festival is postponed. Organizers are expecting to host it this August.
3/17: Bath and Body Works is closing all of its stores nationwide.
3/17: The Orange County Library System will close all sixteen locations for an undetermined period of time. Online delivery services and streaming will still be available.
3/17: The Mennello Museum of American Art will close through March 31.
3/17: College Park Spring Fest is delayed until further notice.
3/17: Earl’s Restaurants has closed all locations for the near future.
3/17: Governor DeSantis stated that all K-12 required testing will be canceled and that parents can choose to hold their children back a year if they choose. Teaching hours moving forward will be scaled back.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18
3/18: Target adjusting shopping hours and will close by 9 p.m. From 8 a.m.-9 a.m. only the elderly and immunocompromised will be admitted.
3/18: The US and Canada have closed the border to non-essential travel.
3/18: Gatorland has closed but is offering online programming.
3/18: National Park Service is temporarily suspending entrance fees.
3/18: Florida Mall, Orlando Premium Outlets, and Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets will close through March 29.
3/18: Hyatt Regency Hotel on International Drive will close through May 31.

THURSDAY, MARCH 19
3/19: Diocese of Orlando has suspended Mass to contain the spread of the virus.
3/19: Orlando Weekly has laid off 13 employees due to a dramatic fall in advertising.
3/19: Publix is designating 7-8 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings as senior shopping hours for customers over the age of 65. This change takes effect on Tuesday, March 24. Publix Pharmacy will also be open at 7 a.m. those days.
3/19: Orlando Fringe has canceled its 2020 festival.
3/19: Toll plazas are not accepting cash fees.
3/19: Airbnb will give refunds for Coronavirus cancellations but Vrbo, not so much.
3/19: Chela Tequila and Tacos has closed.

FRIDAY, MARCH 20
3/20: European Union wants Netflix to switch off its high definition video and go low def in order to lower the demand on international bandwidth and prevent the “internet from breaking.”
3/20: The Scripps National Spelling Bee has been canceled.
3/20: The United States will move its tax filing deadline from April 15 to July 15.
3/20: Rideshare Hubs are suspended until further notice.
3/20: President Trump announced a 30-day U.S.-Mexico border closure.
3/20: Walmart hiring 150,000 new workers and giving bonuses before May.
3/20: Cirque du Soleil will lay off 95 percent of its workforce, temporarily, due to the outbreak.
3/20: Darden will close all 1,800 of its dining rooms by Friday, March 20. Focusing on JUST TAKEOUT.
3/20: Governor DeSantis has issued an executive order to all restaurants and food establishments in Florida to suspend on-premises food and alcohol consumption. Takeout is still allowed and restaurants without package sales permits are now allowed to sell alcohol for delivery. Alcohol with pickup is permitted with proper identification.
3/20: Hard Rock closing casinos.
3/20: A curfew is in place for 11 p.m.-5 a.m. until further notice. DOES NOT CHANGE LYNX SERVICE.
3/20: All city facilities will close to the public at the close of business on Friday, March 20. Other city facilities like Leu Gardens, city parks, and Dubsdread Golf Course will remain open to the public until further notice, with necessary social distancing measures in place.
3/20: City of Orlando will start allowing for 30-minute parking at downtown meters for food delivery drivers. Restaurant vehicles must display business name, phone number, and address on dashboard.

SATURDAY, MARCH 21
3/21: Florida Keys closes all hotels and shuts down to visitors as early as tomorrow.
3/21: Florida is capping weekly unemployment insurance payments at $275.
3/21: Costco stores are not accepting returns on high-demand items like toilet paper and Lysol wipes.
3/21: Southwest to cancel 1,000 daily flights between March 22 and April 14 and suspending service to international destinations.

SUNDAY, MARCH 22
3/22 NASA has suspended work on the moon rocket, impacting the 2024 moon landing goal.
3/22: The Orlando Police Department will close its lobbies at the main headquarters and in all substations until further notice.
3/22: The number of Florida-related coronavirus cases has climbed to 830 today.
3/22: Four college students returning from spring break test positive for coronavirus.
3/22: The Wheel at ICON Park, Madame Tussauds, and Sea Life Orlando Aquarium will be closed until further notice.
3/22: Fun Spot America will close at 10 p.m. tonight and remain closed until further notice.
3/22: Homeowners who have lost income or their jobs due to the coronavirus outbreak can now be eligible to have their mortgage payments reduced or suspended for up to 12 months.
3/22: National unemployment is expected to hit 30 percent in the second quarter.
3/22: President Trump orders FEMA to ship mobile hospital centers to Washington, California, and New York.

MONDAY, MARCH 23
3/23: Orlando police officer tests positive for coronavirus.
3/23: 4 Orlando firefighters are self-isolating after being in contact with people who tested positive for COVID-19.
3/23: 4th TSA agent at Orlando International Airport tests positive for COVID-19.
3/23: Wekiva Island is closing until further notice.
3/23: 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be postponed.

TUESDAY, MARCH 24
3/24: A fifth Orlando International TSA officer has tested positive for coronavirus.
3/24: CVS is hiring 50,000 new positions and offering bonuses during pandemic.
3/24: Florida coronavirus cases rise above 1,400.
3/24: JW Marriott, Grande Lakes, The Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes Orlando to close for two months.
3/24: Universal Orlando will extend the closure of CityWalk through April 19.
3/24: Orange County issues shelter-in-place order, starting 11 p.m. Thursday, March 26 through April 9.
3/24: Orange County has at least 50 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25
3/25: Publix installing plexiglass at all checkout lanes, pharmacies, and customer service desks.
3/25: Senate agrees on $2 trillion coronavirus economic rescue package.
3/25: The Tony Awards have been postponed.

THURSDAY, MARCH 26
3/26: Initial unemployment count its 3.3 million, breaking the previous record of 600,000.
3/26: Orange County now has 110 coronavirus cases, with 2,300 cases in the state and 28 deaths.
3/26: Brightline train service suspended indefinitely during shutdown.
3/26: Deadline to get a REAL ID has been pushed back by a whole year due to coronavirus.

FRIDAY, MARCH 27
3/27: Still no health screenings at Orlando airport for New York-area arrivals.
3/27: Pornhub is offering its premium features for free. For everyone.
3/27: Lynx will reduce service levels beginning March 30 and will close terminal lobby and restrooms to the public.
3/27: Monster Jam World Finals 2020 canceled.

SOCIAL DISTANCING DOESN’T MEAN JUST EATING AND WATCHING TELEVISION

GOVERNMENT UPDATES

ORANGE COUNTY AND STATE GOVERNMENT

The downtown office lobby will be closed to visitors. County residents and taxpayers should use www.ocpafl.org for help.
The OCPA office is reducing its workforce by 50 percent, and ~~most will work from home.~~ Will now work 100 percent remotely and they have closed the downtown office. OCPA’s website (www.ocpafl.org) and customer service phone lines (407-836-5044) will remain available.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will extend the effective period for all driver licenses and ID cards that will expire between March 16, 2020 and April 15, 2020 for another 30 days. They will also waive delinquent renewal fees during the extension period for these licenses.
Residents can report any violations to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation on the Department’s online portal
Orange County Government will be expanding its Crisis Assistance Program and providing a hotline to help mortgage and rent-stressed households within the County. Details soon to follow.
LYNX will postpone upcoming service changes until June 7.
Orange County has canceled upcoming zoning meetings until further notice.

CITY OF WINTER PARK

All large events within city limits have been canceled through the end of the month.
All City advisory board meetings have been canceled.
All indoor youth and adult athletic leagues managed by the city have been suspended.
Childcare programs and spring break camps held at city facilities have been suspended.
Senior programming held at city facilities has been suspended.
Winter Park Farmers’ Market will be closed on March 14, 21, and 28.
Elections scheduled for Tuesday, March 17 will remain unchanged.

CITY OF ORLANDO

The City of Orlando has launched a special Coronavirus Update website HERE.
All youth and adult sporting activities are suspended.
All neighborhood, community, and recreation centers will close to the public as of Friday, March 20.
Permit submissions are encouraged to be done online at orlando.gov/permits.
All Public Works services will remain in place, including refuse collection and street sweeping.
3/18: All essential city services will be managed and delivered remotely.
3/18: Discover Downtown is closed until further notice.
3/18: The Orlando Fire Department has updated response protocols related to a respiratory illness and will ask for patients to meet paramedics outside of their location if they are able to do so without compromising their medical condition.

SCHOOLS

3/11: UCF has moved its classes to online instruction starting on the 16th to protect its students. They’ll go remote for at least the next two weeks and they’re advising students to avoid coming to campus and to move out from the dorms if they can.

3/12: Rollins College just followed suit, and will close to students on the 23rd, though that’s after March Break. Students will begin moving off campus immediately and all classes will move online. Rollins has also canceled the remainder of its springs ports season.

3/12: Valencia College is trying to transition as many courses to online platforms as possible but is still allowing students on campus.

3/12: Orange County Public Schools issued a statement at 1:20 p.m. that they would be resuming classes after spring break on Monday, March 23.

3/12: Lake Highland Preparatory School has canceled its administration of the ACT on Saturday, April 4.

3/12: Valencia College has canceled all face-to-face classes and closed its campus to students.

3/13: Orlando area high school sports suspended for two weeks.

3/13: Public schools in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, and Volusia counties will resume classes on Monday, March 30.

3/16: May SATs have been canceled and affected students will receive refunds.

EVENTS

The City of Orlando and Orange County Government have limited all gatherings to have no more than 250 people at a time through the end of the month. This is in effect at all public venues, including Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center.

As of Sunday, March 15, the CDC is recommending that there be no gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.

Events are being canceled throughout the month. If you were leaving Orlando to hit a concert, you may want to check Billboard’s running list of cancellations HERE.

Events at Orlando’s Amway Center have not been canceled amid coronavirus concerns – city-run venues are being monitored and are stepping up cleaning patrols. Adding signs and sanitizing stations to encourage proper hygiene. I think they should have people in the restrooms enforcing handwashing.

DON’T FREAK OUT – YOU CAN MAKE SOME YOURSELF

SELF-CARE

Self-isolate, yes, but if that’s not your thing there are plenty of precautions you can take to not stay at home. If you’re over 60 or have a condition you’re at higher risk. If you have a fever, stay home. Wash your hands and avoid close contact to avoid becoming a carrier. Avoid public transportation and ride-sharing, even though Lime recently released its sterilization policies and stepped up its cleaning services, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t carry wipes with you if you have to use a scooter.

You can make your own hand sanitizer – Keep it cute and simple, use aloe and rubbing alcohol. Add some glitter, call it a day. There are eco-friendly glitter varietals out there too that biodegrade if that bothers you. We wrote about it HERE.

The Orange County Library System has a wide variety of digital offerings for library cardholders, including ebooks and audiobooks, live online classes, streaming TV and movies, music downloads, databases, digital magazines and more. SHOPPING LOCAL

Beginning Saturday, March 14, all Publix stores will close at 8 p.m. to allow time to restock product on their shelves.

Social distancing is expensive and doesn’t always work. Experts are saying if taken to extremes, it could instigate another big recession so be sure to shop local with vendors you trust. Local businesses are already hurting from the impacts of the virus and people choosing to stay home, so shop with care and intention. Consider buying gift certificates to use later.

Also, many small boutiques still have plenty of soap and disinfectants available.

INSIST ON USING CREDIT CARD OPTIONS, NOT CASH. Cash is dirty and carries germs. Try to take advantage of your credit and bank cards to minimize the handling of bills that may carry something extra you weren’t expecting.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TAKE-OUT OR DELIVERY. We have plenty of options available to have food delivered to our homes while still supporting local businesses. You may not be comfortable dining out at the moment but that doesn’t mean you have to eat beans on toast. Dine-in traffic is expected to slow by up to 75 percent in the next few weeks.
