Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings announced on Friday, April 3 that the planned transportation sales tax initiative would be put on the back burner for the immediate future.

Mayor Demings stated that the shift away from the transportation challenge was to focus more attention on health and safety issues in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The matter of instituting a penny sales tax will now be revisited in the 2022 general election.

The sales tax, which we wrote about previously HERE, was expected to be able to generate $596 million a year.
