Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer shared the news Tuesday, May 12 that the city would be canceling its annual Fourth of July Fireworks at the Fountain celebration due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The annual celebration attracts thousands of spectators each year to Lake Eola to watch the free display over the Linton E. Allen Memorial Fountain. In its place, the City will be airing a “Best Of” virtual firework special with its partners at News 6 featuring clips from previous Fourth of July celebrations at Lake Eola.

The decision is a part of an ongoing effort launched by City Hall in March to cancel or postpone city-hosted or city-sponsored events with an estimated attendance of 250 or more people at a time.
