The Orange County Library System will not reopen its Herndon library branch, located at 4324 E. Colonial Drive [GMap].

A post on the library system’s Twitter page earlier today shared that the Orange County Library System Board of Trustees voted on May 14, 2020, not to extend the lease for the Herndon Branch library.

They shared the following statement:

“This was a difficult decision, but given the history of challenges with this location and the current economic environment, the Herndon Branch will not reopen. The Herndon book drop will close on June 1, 2020. Library customers may use any other Orange County Library System Branch, including the Chickasaw Branch, which is 4.6 miles from Herndon, and the Orlando Public Library, which is 3.5 miles from Herndon. Customers can also continue to use our growing number of virtual amenities and our home-delivery service, which brings library materials to customers’ home on request.”

The Herndon location has been operating for roughly 20 years and mostly serviced families in Baldwin Park as well as the Lake Underhill area and Hibiscus neighborhood.

The Sweet Tomatoes in the same strip closed earlier in the month when its parent company filed for bankruptcy.
