The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced that the first weekend in June each year is a license-free fishing weekend.

This year’s event falls on June 6 and 7, during which anyone can fish in saltwater without having to purchase a license. The license-free window also applies to June 13 and 14 during which people can fish in freshwater license-free.

The initiative is meant to encourage first-time fishing excursions and includes crabbing, lobstering, and scalloping.

Normal regulations like size and bag limits still apply.

Licences are available online at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.
