UPDATE: Rosalind Avenue will be closed for the duration of the installation of the street mural.
The City of Orlando will be installing a Black Lives Matter mural on the surface of Rosalind Avenue this week.
A public event will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, between Washington Street and Robinson Street by the western edge of Lake Eola Park where students from Jones High School and local faith and community leaders will place 16, 30-foot high letters spelling out “Black Lives Matter” in red, black, and green colors inspired by the Pan-African Flag.
The entire mural is expected to be completed by Saturday, June 29, and will measure 400 feet in length.
The first “Black Lives Matter” street mural was installed by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser in early June and has sparked a nationwide movement to install similar pieces in cities across the nation.
