The City of Orlando is launching a program to expand support for families and their children during the pandemic.
The City is getting behind the concept of “homeschooling pods” where groups of neighbors and families can share the cost to hire and pay for a teacher to teach their exclusive group. The idea has been building strength across the country as public schools reopen during the pandemic.
The City of Orlando is offering six neighborhood centers to be used as out-of-home learning spaces with access to computer labs, Wi-Fi, and the Orange County Public School’s LaunchEd program.
- Engelwood Neighborhood Center, 6123 La Costa Drive
- Northwest Neighborhood Center, 3955 WD Judge Drive
- John H. Jackson Neighborhood Center, 1002 West Carter Street
- Downtown Recreation Complex, 363 North Parramore Avenue
- Dr. James R. Smith Neighborhood Center, 1723 Bruton Boulevard
- Rosemont Neighborhood Center, 4872 Rose Bay Drive
The pods are limited to groups of nine students with two pods assigned to each neighborhood center to allow for safe social distancing practices.
