Orlando’s tourism agency, Visit Orlando (Facebook | Website), is looking for a new leader.

George Aguel announced that he would be stepping down as president and chief executive officer of Visit Orlando at a board of directors meeting last Thursday. Aguel’s contract was set to expire in 2021 but he announced that he would be leaving the agency early to spend more time with his family.

The 67-year-old former Disney executive was paid over $630,000 in 2019 and has been working for Visit Orlando since 2013. Visit Orlando is funded in part by Orange County hotel taxes, which were down 97 percent in April compared to last year due to the pandemic.

Aguel has worked for Visit Orlando since 2013. The board of directors is meeting this week to discuss next steps and will be making a public announcement soon.
