The City of Orlando has announced a new proposal to provide rental assistance to help residents that have been impacted financially by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new Rental Assistance Program will be funded by moneys received through the State of Florida’s CARES Act, with over $1.5 million allocated for the initiative.

The city will provide grants of up to $10,000 in rental assistance per household and cover rent payments not made between March 1, 2020, through October 31, 2020. The City expects to help an estimated 300 homes through the program, which will be run by the Heart of Florida United Way and their ALICE Fund.

Residents must be at least one month past due on rent payments, have proof of financial hardship due to COVID-19, be a City of Orlando resident, have an income not exceeding 120 percent of Orange County’s Average Median Incme of $87,240 and must provide proof of identification, a copy of their lease, self-certification of income, proof of COVID-19 financial hardship, and a W-9 from their landlord.

The proposed program will go before the Orlando City Council for approval at the Tuesday, September 8 City Council meeting.

We will share the information on how to apply if/when the program is passed.
