Lowe’s closed its Orchard Supply Hardware chain back in August 2018 following a declaration that they would be focusing solely on home improvement needs moving forward. That meant that all Orchard Supply locations were shuttered, including THIS ONE at 1111 S. Orlando Avenue [GMap] in Winter Park which had only been open for a year.

That property has sat empty ever since but hopefully not for much longer as a developer is looking to open a McLaren exotic car dealership there. The property is already under contract and the developers, MCLaren Orlando LLC, have already presented to Winter Park Planning and Zoning.

Current plans include adding more greenspace along Mills Avenue, Building more glass walls to allow visibility of the cars inside, and adding a second floor within the building.

City of Winter Park currently limits car sales to the peripheries of town, like by Maitland further down the road, so the project would require special permitting to allow them to operate closer to the core.

According to a report by FOX 35, local residents are a bit nervous about having a dealership nearby that would bring drivers down their streets to test their supercars – which are able to go from 0-60 in 2.7-seconds.

This is a developing project in its early stages of negotiations with the City of Winter Park.
