The Friends of Lake Apopka (Website), in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, have launched a special challenge with thousands of dollars worth of prizes up for grabs.

The Hooked on Lake Apopka Fish Tag Challenge will reward anglers with specific prize packages based on the fish they manage to land while casting at Lake Apopka. Over 500 largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill have been marked with special tags that correspond with specific prizes:

  • $5,000 for the “Jim Thomas” bass which weighs in at 12 pounds ($2,500 if the fish is caught during the contest and another $2,500 if the catch is submitted and approved to TrophyCatch.com. Photo of Jim Thomas below.
  • $500 for largest bass caught
  • Special YETI cooler tags
  • $100 tags

The contest runs from January 15-May 31, 2021.
